Weekly Report(6)-Tingting

I found that the area I want to explore is really big, cultural identity is displayed at all degrees in many aspect/ What I really want to do is to explore and understand the stories of Thai-chinese people. I want to experience how they felt and how they think towards ethnicity.

I read a forum online, this is one of the questions:"Since Thailand is home to the largest overseas chinese community in the world, however most of us don't speak chinese, our name and surename are all in thai. (But I am still 100%Teochew),Do u think we are assimilated or not?"

The question is hard to answer for sure, and in my opinion , there is no point arguing about the assimilation. I met this lady in a small shop. She wrote her chinese name upon my request and she told me that she almost forgot her name. Thus I made a paper cut of her name and pasted on the back of the photo. It is hidden, but I photographed it against the light. Next step I need to clear out a small aspect that I really interested in and carry on. But it is hard for me because of lack of communication and trust. Anyone who have Thai-chinese friends or relatives, please help me. I will appreciate so much.
