HUMBLE PROJECTS: a little place for print, arts and culture now open

Humble Projects is a new arts and culture space located close to Hualamphong station. The renovated shop house sits in a quiet low-rise Chinese neighbourhood and was founded by artists and academics Nigel Power and Mat Trusler.

The ground floor is dedicated to print. A open-access print studio provides a space for learning about letterpress printing and exploring its creative possibilities. Over the coming months we will be running classes and workshops as well as offering the facilities for rent. Our aim is to use this small studio as a hub for those interested in hands-on approaches to print production and cultural intervention. The cooperatively produced broadsheet ‘Bangkok Fog’ will be the first of what is hoped will be many experimental publications to emerge from the workshop.

Humble’s second and third floors are dedicated to seminars, workshops, screenings, small-scale exhibitions and residencies. These flexible open-studio spaces are already in use. May saw a small exhibition by students from Chulalongkorn University’s Communication Design program. On June the 18th, in collaboration with H Gallery Project Space, Humble will host A Fearless Love, a challenging performance-lecture by the leading artist, teacher, writer, and cultural activist Prumsodun Ok. Book arts and typographic workshops are in the pipeline for August and September. And, in October, Swiss filmmaker Hanspeter Ammann will premier two of his latest short movies, the lyrical-realist Isaan set, 'Scenes from a Forgotten Land', and his remarkable tribute to Antonioni, 'Voyage to Ravenna'. Hanspeter will also be running a creative workshop in conjunction with this event.

The thinking behind Humble Projects is simple: to provide a space to explore, encounter and discuss the arts and their relationship to culture and society. As founder Mat Trusler put it, “We are open to ideas. We welcome collaborations.”
