On Site ArtFest 2016 in Taipei

So I am here.

I found a place to work and display my new piece—the On Site ArtFest 2016 in Taipei Expo Part Expo Dome—an event organised by Department of Artist-in-Residence, Taipei Culture Foundation.

A month ago, I submitted my proposal to Taipei Artist Village (the event executive) and got selected to be one of the 100 candidates under the categories "On Site, Visual". All candidates will be challenged to experiment and create a free-topic, free-medium visual work within a limited space (1mx1m). We were expected to finish the set-up within two set-up days, total 16 hours.

Time was definitely my biggest challenge. During the two set-up days, I was the first candidate to arrive the hall, and the last to leave. You will understand why when you scroll down to continue reading.

From first sketch to final execution—the size and shape has been through a few alterations during the process, but the message that I wanted to convey was remained the same. In case I couldn't find what I need, all materials were prepared and "imported" from Thailand, and I need to build from the scratch on site all by myself! Now that you know why I said, "Time is my biggest challenge." Despite that, I managed to put up the work on display.

Artwork Description (in English and Chinese):

“Gender Boundary / 色限

The concept of sex and gender are introduced to us since we are young. Blue represents masculinity, and red represents femininity. Men to protect, women to be protected. Gender has been stereotyped, it ain’t a flexible concept in a patriarchy society. When it become a fix concept agreed among the society, it restricted the possibilities of the women, and the men are forced to perform to be strong at all the time.

My journey of MFA in Visual Communication may come to the end, but my practice-based research is still going on!

If you are in Taipei from 10–16 September 2016, please drop by and visit to the exhibition! :)
