3.3.2014 weekly report-Tingting

Last week after sorting out what I really want to do, I went on a trip along the oldest road-Charoen Krung road in Bangkok and took some photos of the old shops and street. I am interested in the display of Chinese identity since I came here. Tourism is kind of overwhelming here, but still, from what I observed, cultural identity is still vivid. The complex of Chinese-Thai relationship made the cultural identity here very interesting.

There is one paper I read is very useful and helped me to clear out some thoughts. "Tourism offer and cultural identity---is there a link"  ----Dragica Tomka, Goram Tomka and Vladimir Holodkov. This research posed a question whether tourism industry and local communities share the same perception and vision of local cultural identity. Though it is not my part of interest, it offers me information about cultural identity changes during a globalization process.
"We live in a fast, interconnected, mixed and globalized world. The speed of changes questions our identity constantly. In such a world, cultural identity is a choice." ----Tourism offer and cultural identity---is there a link. The choice that we make makes difference and it shows in our everyday life. I am so amazed by the vivid identity which I never had a chance to experience back in China.  I want to discover those vivid images that tell stories about identity changes in a modern city.

  1. It is great opportunity to me as classmate to see the Thai-Chinese culture in your perspective. Sometime to live in the city that I get used to it; several things are ignored.
