Tracking the Trains
Last week I found that trains and buses as transitions might have deeper meanings to my project. This week I studied my existing images and went to track more trains. I took series of photographs from inside the train, outside it, on the tracks and at trainstops.
Train has many aspects, it might mean a wonderful adventure to one using it for the first time and a reminder of low social status to one taking the fully packed free train daily. When watching the trains from a small, local trainstop it seems easy to picture the excitement, dreams and curiosity they would awake in a young girl from rural village. What would happen if one day she would go follow those tracks? Train changes the identity of one sitting on it. Someone becomes a traveler, or in migrants case this is where they, perhaps for the first time, see them selves as migrants.
Next week I plan to visit a bus terminal and study my existing photos of bus traveling and try to think through how these transitions will appear in my final visual works.
I have finished reading the book Bangkok Bound and made notes about it. Currently I am writing the Contextual review on Thesis Book and this work will take 1-2 more weeks to finish.
Really good development I think ... Trains are luminal territories , blends between here and there, could be a powerful figure on your work
