Work in progress: Li Shien, "At The Age of 31: Women and Self"

In response to Ajarn Nigel’s invitation, here I post my current work-in-progress. Today, I was asked by a friend of mine about the topic of my research project. I couldn’t answer her immediately as my head was suddenly blank. I thought I went through 1 3/4 years of visual making process, and a few months of non-stop writing the thesis book and re-write it for so many times... I thought I am confident and ready to present. But when it comes to an improvisation like that, I am a dumb. I think it is not a failure, but a reminder. To remind me about practice. So I tried.

“I am working on a practice-based research project which I named it “At The Age of 31”. The topic of this project is women and self. Her gender, age, experience, subjectivity are the subjects that I want to approach in this inquiry with storytelling. A SELF-publish book that I am working on right now will be publish soon.”

Anyone wants a copy?

  1. It happens to us all :) I think you are describing your work very articulately in class. Maybe the problem was to do with 'register'? Your ways of talking about the project to your peers and teachers is in academic-speak: normal humans might not understand (555). Seriously though it does draw attention to the need to have multiple ways of tlking about your practice for different audiences and situations. Did you think any more about Meta?

  2. Yes, today I met the printer to talk about the book. Saw some sample of printing result produced by them remind me about Meta again. (Last time I was worry about the text will not printed nicely, thus Meta instead of Minion). But I think again. Also might change a bit from what you have seen. Noted about your order, delivery soon!

Once the book is send to print, I will 'come back' again for my articulation. Just to build confidence to avoid tongue tied on 17 May.
